Each recipe is a two-page spread: the complete recipe is given on the left page, and the facing page provides instructions on "creating the jar" easy for you to follow diagram of the specific way the ingredients should be layered in the jar, along with a gift tag that you simply photocopy and reduce to size to fit your jar, the tag provides the title of the recipe, a list of additional perishable ingredients, needed in addition to the dry ingredients and in order to create a delicious recipe.
Banana Nut cookies
The aroma of baking banana nut cookies will be reminiscent to that of banana bread. This cookie is so moist and cake like.
Yields: 3 1/2 dozen cookies
Jar Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Additional Ingredients
1 cup ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Creating the Jar
1/3 cup walnuts, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups oatmeal
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
Yield:
3 1/2 dozen cookies
In addition to the contents of the jar, you will need to add the following ingredients:
1 cup ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Banana Nut Cookies
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In a large bowl, cream the banana, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add the contents of the jar, and stir until well mixed. Drop the dough by heaping teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing the cookies about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until light brown in color. Cool for 1 minute on the baking sheet. Then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Serve or store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
